Buttermilk Waffles

A family favourite, these pillowy buttermilk waffles are just the right amount of sweet. Enjoy for breakfast, or with a cup of coffee for an afternoon snack, topped with blueberry jam and a dollop of sour cream.

Ingredients

  • 400g flour

  • 100g granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 2dl Buttermilk

  • 4dl milk

  • 3 eggs

  • 150g butter, melted, and cooled to room temperature

Method

In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, vanilla sugar, salt, cardamom powder and granulated sugar.

Add milk and buttercream to the bowl, and whisk until you have a smooth batter and there are no dry patches. Mix in the eggs, one by one, stirring between each egg until fully incorporated.

Add the melted butter, and stir thoroughly until fully combined.

Let batter rest for 30 minutes.

Brush the waffle iron with a bit of melted butter, pour batter in by the ladle, then cook until golden brown.

Serve immediately with your choice of jams, a dollop of sour cream and a dusting of icing sugar.
